Enjoy a week in beautiful and temperate San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

San Miguel is located 3 hours north and east of Mexico City. This beautiful and charming colonial city is 6400 feet above sea level; hence enjoys some of the most comfortable weather in all of Mexico. San Miguel is one of the best preserved colonial cities in Mexico.  San Miguel’s cobblestone streets, 16th & 17th century architecture, pastel colors and beautiful old churches attract tourists from around the world. There is a large (about 4500) American citizen population in San Miguel enjoying the moderate climate (average temperature in March is 78 during the day and 50 at night) as well as the cultural activities that San Miguel is so proud to host.   Peruse the following websites offering information on San Miguel de Allende.

Irene (York), owner of The Knitting Basket and knitting teacher “extraordinaire”, is anxious to share her expertise with all attendees. "The Art of Creative Modular Knitting” is the theme for the workshop. Attendees will EXPLORE/LEARN basic techniques for knitting specific as well as special modular units. Units will include, but not limited to the mitered square plus variations, triangles, shells, double shells and circles. Attendees will DISCOVER what happens when they experiment with color placement, stitch pattern and size. Attendees will CREATE an all purpose Bolsa (totebag) or a small wall hanging or a pillow top using the modular unit(s) of choice. The necessary skill level for this workshop can range from “advanced beginner” to “expert”. The most important ingredients are to have an adventurous spirit, a willingness to try new techniques and a desire to embark on a remarkable and exciting experience. The workshop promises to be very exhilarating and should leave the knitter inspired for many future projects. Execution can be simple or challenging and will depend on your choice of technique options. The cost includes instruction (15 hours/ 5 days/3 hours) yarn for project, pattern, lodging (7 nights), breakfasts (7), one dinner (welcome dinner) and one super time.

The hotel we will be using, Hotel Villa  Mirasol, is one of those rare, small (11 rooms) and unique boutique hotels. The hotel is centrally located in the “Historic” district of San Miguel; hence close to exceptional shopping and dining.  The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and very well appointed. All rooms are very clean and airy. We occupied this hotel in March 2005, 2007 and 2008  and the attendees raved about the hotel and the service. The Knitting Basket has reserved all 11 rooms. Our hope is to have knitters occupying all the rooms.  You can view the hotel on their website at: http://www.villamirasolhotel.com/
